Gait Foundation (GF) was founded by Usama Bin Yar in 2021 and it is a non-profit organisation, who is currently in the process of registration. GF is based in Pakistan and its core areas are clinical-based orthotics, prosthetics, rehabilitation, assistive-technology and evidence-based research.  Its main aim is to serve the community with all its heart and resources to make them rehabilitate into their normal lives. As it is a prime responsibility and debt to the community we hold today as clinicians or medical practitioners. We all have spent our half of the age to study medicine and several related subjects. So, it should be our supreme duty to look forward for advancements, provide quality and spread smiles in healthcare sector. For that, one should be more dexterous, critical-thinker, compassionate and thoughtful.

To accomplish that, GF has a core attitude to merge directly both clinical and research practices to yield actual evidence-based outcomes for the benefits of this professional area and also to support those aspects which are undermined and neglected. It is true that, technology is flighting day by day and we have to process and progress accordingly to make it more fruitful, but in this race the basic practices are being lagged as everything requires to be compared, surveyed and analysed from the forth.

Vision & Values

Gait Foundation ensure all employees and workers are treated in a non-discriminatory, fair and consistent way. These policies are person-centered and should be revolve around the organisation:

There are key principles which underpin these policies and must be applied in every trade of organisation.

Right to be Represented

Every employee has the right to have a trade-union official to represent them. They can also be accompanied by an associate who is not functioning in a legal capacity. The ability to be reflect is applicable at all phases and under all workplace policies. Trade-union officials shall be entitled to be represented by a full-time officer of the respective trade-union.

Equality and Diversity

Policies should be applied fairly and consistently to any employee or worker regardless of:

Confidentiality

Supportive Approach and Open Communication

Equity of Access

All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.

Clinical Perspectives

For Gait Foundation, clinical perspective refers to the viewpoint of a health professional such as a doctor, nurse, psychologist or AHPs who works directly with patients. When such a provider offers their professional opinion, knowledge, or insight on an issue, they are offering a clinical perspective. A clinician’s specific outlook influences his or her practice and includes work experience, training, and theoretical background.

Psychological Approach

Psychoanalysis or psychodynamic theory, also known as the “historical perspective,” has its roots with Sigmund Freud, who believed there were unconscious forces that drive behavior. The techniques he developed, such as free association (freely talking to the therapist about whatever comes up without censoring), dream analysis (examining dreams for important information about the unconscious), and transference (redirecting feelings about certain people in one’s life onto the therapist) are still used by psychoanalysts today.

In general, psychotherapists and counselors who use this approach direct much of their focus and energy on analyzing past relationships and, in particular, traumatic childhood experiences in relation to an individual’s current life. The belief is that by revealing and bringing these issues to the surface, treatment and healing can occur. This theory is highly researched, and as the field of neuroscience advances, counselors are finding how psychodynamic theory can actually positively affect a client’s brain. Psychodynamic theory can be more time intensive in comparison to some short-term theories because it involves changing deeply ingrained behaviors and requires significant work on understanding one’s self.

Behavioral Approach

Behavioral theory is based on the belief that behavior is learned. Classic conditioning is one type of behavioral therapy that stems from early theorist Ivan Pavlov’s research. Pavlov executed a famous study using dogs, which focused on the effects of a learned response (e.g., a dog salivating when hearing a bell) through a stimulus (e.g., pairing the sound of a bell with food).

B. F. Skinner developed another behavioral therapy approach, called operant conditioning. He believed in the power of rewards to increase the likelihood of a behavior and punishments to decrease the occurrence of a behavior. Behavioral therapists work on changing unwanted and destructive behaviors through behavior modification techniques such as positive or negative reinforcement.

Cognitive Approach

This counseling theory focuses on how people’s thinking can change feelings and behaviors. Unlike psychodynamic theory, therapy based on cognitive theory is brief in nature and oriented toward problem solving. Cognitive therapists focus more on their client’s present situation and distorted thinking than on their past. Cognitive and behavioral therapy are often combined as one form of theory practiced by counselors and therapists. Cognitive behavioral therapy, or CBT, has been found in research, to help with a number of mental illnesses including anxiety, personality, eating, and substance abuse disorders.

Humanistic Approach

Humanistic therapists care most about the present and helping their clients achieve their highest potential. Instead of energy spent on the past or on negative behaviors, humanists believe in the goodness of all people and emphasize a person’s self-growth and self-actualization.

Humanistic theories include client-centered, gestalt, and existential therapies. Carl Rogers developed client-centered therapy, which focuses on the belief that clients control their own destinies. He believed that all therapists need to do is show their genuine care and interest. Gestalt therapists’ work focuses more on what’s going on in the moment versus what is being said in therapy. Existential therapists help clients find meaning in their lives by focusing on free will, self-determination, and responsibility.

Integrative Approach

Holistic and integrative therapy involves integrating various elements of different theories to the practice. In addition to traditional talk therapy, holistic therapy may include nontraditional therapies such as hypnotherapy or guided imagery. The key is to use the techniques and psychotherapy tools best suited for a particular client and problem.

Research is critical to improving patient outcomes and the quality of healthcare. It helps us to understand what works, what doesn’t work, and why. In addition, research is essential for developing new treatments and therapies. Without research, we would not have many of the lifesaving vaccines and medications that we take for granted today.
